| Prior to the training, this tree started in a five gallon
pot and was about four feet tall. It was cut back to two feet in the summer of
1995. In Spring of 1996, it was repotted in a gallon and one-half pot using the
bonsai soil in order to promote vigorous new growth at the base. It grew in the
same pot for two years. |

| | In the Spring of 1998, the tree was transplanted to a
bonsai pot. The first styling for a semi-cascade style was performed by cutting
all the foliage off the top and selecting just two shoots off a lower side
branch for the new cascade branch and the apex. The top driftwood was then
carved. |

| After two years of careful pinching, the tree showed
compact foliage. . This picture shows how the tree looks in
November 2000. |
